Abstract: With the advancement of urban-rural integrated development and ecological civilization construction in China, there is an urgent demand to systemically enhance the ecological services and aesthetic values of rural landscapes. As a perennial grass with vigorous root systems, strong adaptability, and high stress tolerance, vetiver has been widely used in rural landscape shaping. It enhances the artistic expression of natural elements and landscape units, and thus improves the visual quality of mountains, water bodies, forests, farmlands, roads, ponds, and canals. Moreover, vetiver provides multiple ecological functions, including rice pest control, soil and water conservation, slope stabilization, and ecological restoration. We comprehensively introduced the multifunctional advantages of vetiver system in landscape shaping, environmental protection, and economic development, with particular emphasis on its synergistic effects in promoting rural beautification. We evaluated the ecological and economic values of vetiver system in landscape design and rural development. We further analyzed the key points of the vetiver system in rural landscape design. The application of the vetiver system in landscape shaping and rural beautification can achieve the synergistic optimization between ecosystem services and landscape aesthetics, providing a new technical model for rural revitalization that promotes rural economic development and realizes harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
