Abstract: The roles and functions of ecology in the progress of modern science are described. As pointed out in the paper, ecology in modern time has developed into a science to view the world from human angles, which has great influences on the progress of modern science. Considering from the social functions of science, ecology will play a more significant role, instead of saying that biology represents the developmental trend of modern science.
