Abstract: Ecological footprint (EF) method was used to measure the ecological pressure in Shenyang City in 1991〖KG-*2〗-〖KG-*7〗2005, and the EF of the City in 2006〖KG-*2〗-〖KG-*7〗2010 was predicted. The results showed that in 1991〖KG-*2〗-〖KG-*7〗2005, the per-capita EF of the City was 175 hm2, while the per-capita bio-capacity was 041 hm2, resulting in a per-capita ecological deficit of 134 hm2. The per-capita EF demand was 324 times more than the bio-capacity. The cropland and energy footprints accounted for more than 85% of the total EF, and thus, the changes in these two components had substantial effects on the total EF. According to the prediction, the EF of Shenyang City would grow at a high rate after 2005, and would reach 511 hm2 per capita in 2010, being 350, 332, and 196 times of that in 1991, 2000, and 2005, respectively. Based on the outcome of this study, some suggestions were proposed for the ecological and sustainable development in Shenyang.
