Abstract: The catalase activities in soils of the four vegetations(Kobresia humilis meadow,Dasiphora fru-ticosa shrub,Elymus nutans meadow and Forbs meadow) were studied at Haibei alpine mea-dow ecosystem research station in 1986.Experimental results showed that the highest catalaseactivities occurred in the soil surface layer and gradually decreased with an increase in soildepth. The soil catalase activities were different with the various vegetation. The catalase activities were correlated with the soil characteristics. The correlations were different with va-rious vegetations.
