Based on observation of the predatory behavior of ladybirds, it is considered that the predator's activity on different prey densities can be expressed by the differential equation, dNa/d(N-1)=-bNa. The integral equation of functional response is expressed as Na=a穚積xp(-b穚1-m-1)Where, a: maximum number of prey attacked, b: optimum density of prey for the activity of predator. Na: total number of prey attacked. N: density of prey. P: density of predator. m: interference coefficient among natural enemies.
Characteristics of Hairtail Fish (Trichiurus haumela Forskal) Population and Fishery Management in the East China Sea
    Xu Yongming
    1988, (1):  4-8.
    Asbtract ( 1239 )   PDF (455KB) ( 177 )
The exploited features of the population resource of hairtail fish under heavy exploitation and biological characters of this fish to withstand the heavy exploitation were described. The catchable amount of the hairtail fish according to the reproductive equation and Schaefer's model was discussed. Finally, suggestions of the preservation of young fish and rational exploitment based on the present resource were put forward.
Effect of Dust Pollution from Opencut Coal Mining on Farmland Ecological Environment
    Yang Jurong
    1988, (1):  9-12,32.
    Asbtract ( 1236 )   PDF (477KB) ( 184 )
Based on field investigation and simulation test, the effect of dust pollution from opencut coalmining on the agriculture environment was studied. The source intensity, the physical and chemical compositions of the mine dust and the hazard of mine dust pollution on soil and crops were all discussed. Measures for reducing pollution were suggested.
Biological Productivity and Nutrient Distribution in Over-mature Plantation of Cunninghamia lanceolata
Deng Shijian, Wang Kaiping, Gao Hong
    1988, (1):  13-18.
    Asbtract ( 1353 )   PDF (532KB) ( 142 )
The standing stock, standing crop, net production and nutrient contents of two over-mature stands of Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation were investigated. One stand was of 60 years old in a valley and the another of 56 years old on a slope. The data presented hcre were obtained by allometric method. The standing stock, standing crop, net production and contents of the nutrient—N, P2O5, K2O, CaOand MgOwere 1498m3/ha, 644.08t/ha, 6.353t/ha·yr and 10736.49kg/ha respectively for the stand in the valley, and 817m3/ha,328.60t/ha, 6.190t/ha·yr and 5210.53kg/ha respectively for the stand on the slope.
A Spectral Analysis of the Population Dynamics of Korean Pine in the Mixed Broad-leaved Pinus koraiensis Forest
    Wu Yegang, Han Jinxuan
    1988, (1):  19-23.
    Asbtract ( 1337 )   PDF (521KB) ( 385 )
Aspectral analysis of the population dynamics of Korean pine in the mixed broad-leaved Pinus koraiensis forests was made in this paper. The result shows that there is a marked regularity of periodic fluctuations in the process of natural regeneration of Korean pine. It was discovered that the periodic fluctuation of the annual growth of Korean pine was coincident with that of the natural regeneration process. It indicates that the natural regeneration of the Korean pine population proceeds in the way of periodic wave, which is characterized by the dominant population of a steady community.
Storage and Distribution of Nitrogen in the Lithocarpus xylocarpus Forest in North Side of Ailao Mountain
    Xu Yue
    1988, (1):  24-27.
    Asbtract ( 1115 )   PDF (358KB) ( 195 )
The storage and distribution of nitrogen in the Lithocarpus xylocarpus forest of Ailao mountain in the centre of Yunnan province was studied. The total nitrogen storage in the forest is 9.1t/ha, of which the nitrogen in the tree layer makes up of 17.58%, bush layer of 0.36%, herb of 0.05%, litters of 14.91% and 0-50cm soil layer of 67.10%.
    On Evaluation of Ecological Models
    Yu Mouchang
    1988, (1):  28-32.
    Asbtract ( 1072 )   PDF (564KB) ( 346 )
The evaluation of ecological models involves two aspects of work: one is to evaluate the truth of a model, the another evaluate the value of a model. For these sakes, the relationships between subject and object, subjectivity and objectivity, the whole and the parts, human and the nature must be correctly dealt with in the research of ecological models.
    On Urban Ecological Planning
    Feng Xiangdong
    1988, (1):  33-36,40.
    Asbtract ( 1326 )   PDF (719KB) ( 432 )
Based on the ecological principles, the theoritical basis, fundermental principles, subjects, procedure and methods of the urban ecological planning and the components of the planning achievements were discussed in detail, which gave references to the personnel engaged in urban ecological planning.
Relationship Between Agro-ecological Factors and the Rampancy of Snout Moth in Rice Field
    Chen Dong
    1988, (1):  37-40.
    Asbtract ( 1139 )   PDF (397KB) ( 180 )
Snout mothes are serious pests in the paddy field. Cropping system, cultivation type, nutrition and climate are the four important factors controlling the rampancy of the pests.

    Asbtract ( 1234 )   PDF (402KB) ( 213 )
Based on ecological factors and others, the beekeeping area in Anhui Province was divided into three regions, the northern, southern and central. The northern region is good for Italian bee apieulture, the southern region good for Chinese bee apiculture and the central good for Chinese bee and Italian bee mixed apiculture.

Investigations on the populations of major insect pests in the mixed forest of Chinese fir and Homana and pure Chinese fir plantations in Liuwan state forest farm of Guangxi were made. Insect pests harming Chinese fir are mainly Polychrosis cunninghamiacola and Mourotermes barneyi, and Caloptilia sp.and Homana coffecerta are the major insects attacking Homana. The rates of attacked trees and branches by Polyehrosis cunningharniacola are 23.7% and 3.3% in the mixed forest respectively lower than that in pure stands. The rate of attacked trees by termite in mixed forests is 4—32% lower than that in the pure stands too. The populations of Caloptilia sp. and Homana coffeceria were very low.
