Abstract: According to the differences in the remote sensing data source adopted, this paper analyzed the present methods for estimating forest aboveground biomass (AGB) based on remote sensing techniques and the related research advances, and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the inversion methods based on optical remote sensing image, microwave remote sensing data, and LiDAR data. A method integrating multi-sensor data to estimate the forest AGB was put forward, and, in view of the deficiencies in the present related researches, the focuses in the future research on the estimation of forest AGB were prospected, including developing mechanism model, considering scale issue, and integrating multi-sensor data.
