Abstract: This paper reviews the terminology of root exudates,mechanisms of their exudation,factors influencing the exudation,mediated metabolic and non-metabolic pathways,procedures for their collecting and analyzing,substances detected in them, relationships between root exudates and rhizosphere microbes and ecological roles of root exudates.
