The Vertical Distribution of Birds on the Guandi Mountains in Shanxi Province

Abstract: This paper is the first report about the investigation of birds distributed in the Guandi Mountains,Shanxi Province.Five vertical distribution belts of birds are divided for the Guandi Mountains.The data indicate that birds are most abundant in the lower mountain belts and not abundant in the mountain summit belt.The avifauna in this district is composed of 14 orders,20 families and 143 species in which there are 88 breeding birds.The brown-eared pheasants(Crossoptilon mantchuricum)is the peculiar species there and their nest territory generally is distributed in the mid-mountain belt with an elevation of 1850—2290 metres.
