Abstract: Allelopathy of aquatic macrophytes is of significance on sustainable management of weeds in freshwater ecosystem and eutrophic lakes' ecological reconstruction.Phylogeny and actuality of allelopathy on aquatic macrophytes were reviewed. The relative method of experiment, bioassay and allelochemicals' isolation had been discussed.Current bioassay methods include agar diffusion, algal and Lemna minor growth inhibition assays.Allelopathic substances can be isolated and identified from the culture solution which is prepared through coexistence or solitude cultivation. It plays an important role in confirming the presence of allelopathy in complicated aquatic environment and studying the release routes of allelochemicals and mechanisms of allelopathic activity.
