Abstract: Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV), which belongs to Tobamovirus, is one of the most important viruses on Capsicum frutescens and widely threatens pepper production throughout the world. So far many researches have been done on PMMoV, including virus detection, pathogenic gene and disease control. In this paper, the virus biological characteristics, genome structure, virus detection and disease control of PMMoV were summarized. Meanwhile, we also summed up the latest research advances on the influence and application of PMMoV on ecological environment and human health. Finally, the existing problems in virus detection and prevention, ecological environment security and medical application of PMMoV were explored, and some perspectives on future researches were put forward, with an attempt to provide reference for further study of PMMoV through multidisciplinary coordination.
