Abstract: Either in nature systems or in agricultural systems, plant species have various compensatory responses after herbivore feeding, including damage compensation, undercompensation, equalcompensation and over compensation. This review discussed the plant compensatory mechanisms from three aspects of morphology, physiology, biochemistry and evolution as well as from different levels of individual and community.
