    Jing Yuanshu, Wu Yunying
    1996, (2):  21-24.
    Asbtract ( 1475 )   PDF (197KB) ( 311 )
Data collected were analysed to evaluate effects of paulownia-wheat inter cropping on physio-logical reaction. It was found that the resistance of wheat in the noon in the intercropped fields was less than that in the control plots. Average photo synthetic rate of wheat both at the edge of tree and the middle of tree rows was increased by 8% or so compared to the control plots at middle filling stage of wheat. Increasement of photosynthetic rate and lengthenment of photo synthetic time were important reasons resulting in the ries of wheat biomass and average product. Wheat transpiration rate was decreased and water use efficiency ( WUE)was higher in the intercropped fields so that the harm of dryhot wind was lightened.

Conservationists maintaining the health and diversity of natural systems by protecting habitats is becoming increasingly difficult and sophisticated because of the grow ing of human population. To solve this problem, minimum viable population( MVP), a new theory, has been established. This theory focuses on the minimum conditions of the viability of species. The concept of MVP, determining method of MVP, and application in wildlife conservato in were discussed in this paper .
The Ecological Connotation of Sustainability Concept and its Implication for Human Development

    1996, (2):  31-36.
    Asbtract ( 1777 )   PDF (363KB) ( 313 )
This paper examined the historical development of the“sustainability”concept and compared difference of“sustainability”concepts in the different contexts of disciplines, scales, and human develo pmental values, which presents some diversified no thional partialities. In contrast with such ex isting partialities. the auther expressed an ecological definition of“sustainalibity”concept from aholistic human ecological point of view . Based on such an integrative connotation, an alternative holistic model of sustainability——ecological development, was putforward, which strongly under lined human sustainable survival and development .

    Asbtract ( 1470 )   PDF (488KB) ( 390 )
For nearly 40 years, soilsa linization, situated in a ridland of natural grass and farming-pas to ralzigzag in the western pla in area of the Northeast China, has been becoming worse and worse. Its area has gone up from 496 million hectare in 1950s to 601 million hectare in 1980s, increased by 21 percent. Soil productivity has been generaly dropped. Correspondly, eco tope of saline land has worsened. Main ways of ecology control and reconstruction are follow : (1)making a thorough investigation of resources and a good job of lands use plan; (2) planting grass and deciding the amount of husband ary by grass; (3) building water conservancy project and planting rice for combating alkalinity; (4)planting forests and puting up green shield; (5) carrying out dynamic watch and forecasting evolution trend of soil salinization.

    Jiang Gaomin
    1996, (2):  49-54.
    Asbtract ( 1398 )   PDF (543KB) ( 827 )
Stable carbon isotope technique has been playing many roles in the research of plant physio-logical ecology and global change ecology . For example, δ13C in leaves of some species is characterized with a certain photosynthesis pathway, or has some close relation with water use efficiency (WUE) . The δ13C recorded in tree righs can also be used to indicate the past climate changes. The fractio nation of δ13C from atmosphere to plants and the method for determining this value as well as some applications of such technique were briefly introduced in this paper .

Leymus chinensis can grows in different typical steppe in the Inner Mongolian Plateau. In the same season, we invested and contrasted different typical Leymus chinensis which grows in different regions, such as desert grassland, typical grassland and meadow grassland etc. The number of leaves was basically stable, whereas heigh of plant, length of leaf, width of leaf, leng th/ width of leaf, dry weight per m2 and their energy value etc. Were all increased with the increase of precipitation from west to east . In order to protect the resource of grassland,we must attach importance to the practical productivity of the grassland, as well as area of grassland, when we estimate the maximum capacity of carring livestock on grassland.
