The ecological environment of this district is characterised by rare rainfall, drought, sweltering heat and fiequent sand drifting by wired. Desert plants are adapted to this environment with different ways. For instance, some species can stand drought and swelter by the high content of bound water, high viscosity and coagulation rate of protoplasm, and strong hydrophilic ability of colloid. And some species can do these through their morphological and anatomical characteristics. Therefore, it's profitable to take account of these characteristics in selecting sand-fixing plants.
A MODEL OF TRADITIONAL FARMING REFORMATION STARTED WITH AFFORESTATION AND GREEN MANURE PLANTING—AN ANALYSIS TOTHE AGRO-ECOSYSTEM OF QIANCHAGAN BRIGADE

The reformation of traditional farming has been started at Qianchagan brigade. The main points of it are: combining land utilization with soil conservation and fertilization, improving land surface covering by afforestation and green manure planting, and expanding sowing area for leguminous forage and green manure crops. Nutrient cyclings at three stages of agricultural production developement (stages of shifting cultivation, rotation with grain and green manure crops, and combination of farming and animal husbandry)are discussed in this paper.

Alnus mandshurica
(Call.) Hand.-Mazz. and
A. sibirica
var.
hisruta
(Turez.) Koidz. are widely distributed in forest regions of northeastern China as major non-leguminous nodulated tree species with N

-fixation. This paper summarizes the results of the research on effects of ecological factors on N
2
-fixation of alder nodules. The results show that sufficient light condition is essential in raising N
2
-fixing capability of the two species. The level of acetylene reduction of nodules partly depends on photosynthesis of the plant. The peak of diurnal course in acetylene reduction appears at 13: 00 hr. after the appearance of higher photosynthetic rate in early morning. The lower capability in N

-fixation by

growing at high altitude is due to the lower temperature besides genetic factors.

This paper reported twenty-five species of rodents collected in Zhejiang. They belong to 7 families and 14 genera. The predominant species are from Muridae. Eight species are new recorded. Study shows that the species number is decreased with the increasing population density. The author comes to the conclusion that it is the ecological inequilibrium caused by human activities which led to these changes.

All biological energy sources are come from soils. Even such so-called fossil energy sources as coal and oil are also come from fossil soils. In our country, the main problem about energy sources is the fuel for daily use of peasants. It is necessary to work out a comprehensive plan for farmland construction including the establishment of fuel basis, and the popularization of using marsh gas.

This paper discusses the relationships among microorganisms, microbial biomass and nutrient transformation in terrestrial soils. The examples given for carbon-, nitrogen-and phosphorus flow through ecosystems emphatically indicat the significance of living organisms and microbial biomass as well as its importance in various transformations involved.
