An activated sludge sample derived from purification plant with bulking sludge has been investigated for the presence of filamentous organisms. The 13 species which were identified or distinguished can be classified in 9 genera. We discovered that two genera represented by the species Candida salmanticensis and Paecilomyces variotii and seven species of four genera, Baci.megatherium,Asp.versicolor,Asp.sydowii,T.koningii, P. chrysogenum, P. citrinum, P. jensenii were not reported previously. However, the genera, Penicillium, Trichoderma, Aspergillus were only reported in activated sludge.

Basing on the examples indicating the getting worse of ecological conditions of Yangtze River basin, the author emphasized that here existed a risk of Yangtze River becoming Yellow River if the problem of water and soil losses not been paid enough attention to,The viewpoint of water management must be followed by mountain management and the latter followed by planting was also put forward by the author.
